D100 Encounters on a cyberpunk subway system.

So I started running a cyberpunk sandbox game and the world map is this subway system that I made.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NCfpFXTW7VmmO58pVZ2NMapXsL6O7X9S/view?usp=sharing
Now I need random encounters that they might have when traveling around the city by subway!
  1. Local thugs shaking down passengers, telling them they have to "pay the toll." u/ajchafe
  2. Police drones performing random scans for drugs or other illicit contraband. u/ajchafe
  3. A very loud, very annoying, augmented reality busker shares your train car. u/ajchafe
  4. Stray dogs who use the subway to get into the inner city where food is easier to find. u/ajchafe
  5. A group of corporate salary men, all dressed in exactly the same suits and carrying the exact same briefcase. u/ajchafe
  6. A young punk jacks his deck into the trains loud advertising screens, taps a few keys on the keypad, and downloads a packet of info from the terminal. u/EmeraldJonah
  7. A train-goer's implants get hacked, causing them untold embarrassment (arm randomly flips persons off, eyes cause the person to see hallucinations, breast implants randomly adjust size, leg implants begin doing a Russian hop dance, etc.) u/snakebite262
  8. A young ganger accidentally drops a handgun far bigger than it needs to be. They pick it back up and stash it in their pants. u/snakebite262
  9. A person sits in the corner of the train, dressed like a quest giver in a fantasy RPG. u/snakebite262
  10. A drone randomly spirals around the heads of passengers. It eventually lands on a hacker's arm, who pats it like a pet parrot. u/snakebite262
  11. A cosplay convention is in town, and the train is filled with weirdly dressed individuals. u/snakebite262
  12. A one-armed man "asks for everyone's attention" and gives a sob story before they pull out a hat and ask for donations. He can later be seen in a bathroom putting on his arm-implant. u/snakebite262
  13. Some small time rapper offers free flash-drives of their "mixtape". It contains SO MANY VIRUSES. u/snakebite262
  14. A junkie sits at the corner of a platform, debating their next step in life. u/snakebite262
  15. A roly-poly bat faced girl offers a variety of drugs, stems, and other pleasures for the right price. u/snakebite262
  16. A citizen in bright red overalls asks if you want to hear about "Friend Computer". u/snakebite262
  17. A group of LARPers are using a digital program to transform the tunnels into an RPG Fantasy. They're annoying, but they stay off the tracks. u/snakebite262
  18. A man, dressed as a vampire orders a triple-venti cappuccino from a underground coffee shop. He's getting looks from the other customers. u/snakebite262
  19. A manic pixie dream girl can be seen trying to woo a corpo into quitting their job. She either succeeds, and drags them off to never be seen again, or fails and leaves in a huff. u/snakebite262
  20. A disheveled and hungover looking fellow asks you the time as you get to the next stop. He seems surprised at the result and runs off the train as soon as the doors open. As he leaves you realize he looks totally unaugmented. u/CaptainGockblock
  21. The lights go out for a moment as they sometimes do, but this time a man dressed head to toe in a black special ops gear appears in the middle of the train and quickly offs a seemingly random passenger. u/CaptainGockblock
  22. You notice a strange vending machine on a platform you regularly visit. It seems to be an antique stocked with brands that haven’t existed in years. u/CaptainGockblock
  23. Three transhumanist gangers seem to be sizing each other up, violence can break out any time, especially as the next stop is an intersection of two of the gang's territory, and sure to have reinforcements. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  24. A holographic horde of rats swarms the carriage, people with vision altering implants seem to be especially terrified for whatever reason. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  25. An eccentric fellow is proudly showing off his imported implants, possibly so exotic they might just be illegal, and unbeknownst to him, there's a jealous ganger with little to lose nearby. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  26. A man is apparently so fixated with his laserblade switchknife, he accidentally misses his stop, and becomes enraged and violent that nobody warned him. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  27. A little old woman seemingly very out of place in the subway, dressed like an old time farmer, straw hat and all. 50/50 chance she's secretly packing her trusted heat cannon (also used to warm up leftovers when on it's lowest setting). u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  28. A ratty robed mutant freak, laughing maniacally, lets loose a swarm of cybernetically enhanced winged and stinging insects. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  29. The lights suddenly blink out, there's a loud wet stab sound, and when they're back on, the faint visage of an cloaked assassin steps through to the next car. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  30. A group of girls enter the car, obnoxious and talkative, though as they speak, their words are rife with the click of their sharpened metal teeth. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  31. Police drones mistakenly terminate a seemingly innocent man that only happens to match the same clothing as a wanted criminal poster conveniently nearby. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  32. A suspiciously archetypal looking hacker is selling hard copies of "highly illegal virus programs", they all turn out just to be his mixtape, a surprisingly evangelical diss track of hacker scum. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  33. An elite business woman is firing expletives as a cryptocurrency sector she's invested heavily in is called in to be crashing hard. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  34. The train shakes heavily and threatens to derail as a news drone describes the local news of a explosion taking place just above the next stop. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  35. An android, though built to be more the size of a garden gnome, is running wildly around the car, and somebody suddenly curses that they're missing their wallet. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  36. A ganger is getting in people's faces, threateningly shaking a hollow metal box that rattles suspiciously. There is no actual danger, the box is empty all but a few nuts and bolts. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  37. A red goo seeps out of a ventilation grate and takes an imposing monstrous form, people dismiss it as the pattern of a notorious holoprankster terrorizing the subway as of late, but this time, it's real. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  38. There's horrid metal shearing noises coming from a car down, a group of teenage school kids betting credits and homework drives on an impromptu hacked police drone fighting ring. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  39. A decent looking, though obviously naive man is moving in from the wasteland countryside, and is carrying what's little of his moving boxes with him on the subway. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  40. A terrible piercing sonic wave blasts the car, shattering windows and causing people to double over. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  41. A sweating and panting hacker runs and dives through the closing door and incidentally lands amongst a surprisingly unreacting commuter, police drones begin to slam on the door too late, as they're closed and the train takes off. u/DiedViaThrowPillow
  42. A man dressed in a bloodstained white fur coat announces that if the train reaches the next stop before a specific passenger is handed over to him, he will blow up the station with everyone in it. u/Snorri_Stargazer
  43. Someone hacks the transit line schedules and fucks with arrival times just for shits and giggles. Making you incredibly late for that important meeting you've been waiting for weeks to happen. u/ZapatillaLoca
  44. Hari Krishna group aggressively approaching passengers for credits, only accepting e-coin. You're not in the mood for a "donation". u/ZapatillaLoca
  45. Local gang shows up for weekly sweep of homeless kids to be salvaged for organ sales on the black market, most kids try to get away, one runs to you asking for help. u/ZapatillaLoca
  46. Facial recognition software mixes you up with the recent lottery winner, as your face flashes on the giant screen, suddenly your cell phone get flooded with demands for payment citations and your bank accounts have been frozen. u/ZapatillaLoca
  47. A crying little girl who can’t find her mom. u/foolishfool100
  48. Shady memory dealer selling vacation memories. Data is corrupt and alters the character. Basically a Total Recall knockoff. u/Thraxster
  49. An obvious operative stalks through the crowds waiting for the next train. He spots a well-dressed salaryman, approaches him as if to shake his hand, then pushes him off the platform onto the path of the oncoming train. u/JohnnyMiskatonic
  50. A young punk jacks his deck into one of the platform's large information screens and hacks all of them to display a recorded political manifesto instead of train arrival and departure times. u/JohnnyMiskatonic
  51. A salary man with cranial implant comes toward you, looking panicked and glancing at the stairs behind him. Before he can reach you, his implant sparks, his eyes go empty and he starts walking toward the railway, preparing to commit suicide. u/Fulnec_Delta

Gaming Year in Review 2020

So I finally got around to finish my reviews of my accomplished games of yesteryear and I know its a bit late for posting but nothings ever too late for this sub so here goes my somehow short reviews of the 29 games I finished in 2020 (2 games not included since automod is harrassing me despite being in line with the rules)
The Darkness II, PC
Fast paced gory goodness. An action packed title that reaches the full potential of its concept through its crazy fast paced gameplay and mechanics. Combat is exhilarating as you are imbued with the power of the darkness which makes you a walking mutilation machine to anything unfortunate enough to come across your path. The game makes the most use of your powers through quad wielding as if two weapons werent enough making you a force to be reckoned with. With the many ways you can annihilate your opponents, my favorites will always be with the classic tendrils that can perform a variety of executions. There is an odd satisfaction for me whenever Im playing gory games and this one definitely scratches the itch. The levels are designed a little bit too compact for such a chaotic game but nonetheless it suffice. Storywise, it's nice I thought the mobster settings was pretty cool and the exploration of the darkness' history was good especially with the flashback stage. The characters are likeable as well. This game also employs a cel-shaded artstyle which, of course, makes it unique, I cant discern much if it was used effectively though but in my experience I didnt had too much issue with it. To sum it up, the darkness 2 is a decent game with its intense gameplay, good story and unique artstyle.
Hitman: Absolution, PC
A good game but perhaps it was great to some. I played this game with a wrong mindset even though stealth games is one of my favorite genres, I approached this game like how I would approach CoD which is mindless shooting. I didnt really have the patience that time to play through the whole game the way it was meant to be played thus not having experienced the whole hitman experience and I believe its a shame but nonetheless I had fun in my unorthodox guns blazing approach. The point shooting mechanic is highly addictive even though it was supposed to be used strategically I spammed the hell out of it even going so far to download a trainer. The gunplay in combination with the slow mo mechanic is really good that it completely erased the word stealth in my vocabulary. But I didnt play the whole game like that of course, I always try to do a stealth approach first but the number of times I need to restart became tedious hence leading me to just shoot everybody I see towards the rest of the level. Doing a perfect no detection run is still the most satisfying imo. There are other great gameplay mechanics in place especially with the environment interaction which is widely varied, you can kill someone via a loose object hanging overhead of your target, you can add poison into your target's coffee, you can sabotage a piano, and a whole lot more. It was fun exploring them but I barely utilized them since I just opted to use my guns as a simple solution. I know it had the potential to be a great game objectively but I was just too braindead at the moment to find it. Still had fun tho.
Binary Domain, PC
The narrative is a strong suit, an age where AI has evolved to a point where they are essentially the same as humans, but better. They look, behave, react and get this, even reproduce the same. Flesh and metal bound to an indistinguishable level. I wanted this concept to be explored more in game, delving deeper to the ethical, moral and psychological aspects at the societal level, yet the story focused more on the grander scale of things, keeping you in a scenario where there is action instead of slow segments where you immerse yourself with the world in which I wouldve appreciated more. This is understandable considering its an action shooter game anyway. The narrative's potential is strong yet has been set aside after telling the campaign's story as there hasnt been any extended universe outside this game. I felt like the plot could make sense in a -recently released cdpr title- type of game scenario. Now discussing gameplay, combat is fun and engaging, the enemy bots feel realistic especially with their armor and limbs chipping away when hit. You are able to choose different persons from your squad prior to engagement, allies feel helpful at least. I love the close mounted camera perspective for third person games the most and I completely adore the one used here, it adds a bit more to the immersion. There's a trust level system mechanic but its very basic, you just need to choose the good sounding options as opposed to the obvious bad which is a no brainer, granted there's a bit of a challenge in raising it whilst in combat scenarios. In conclusion, good game, engaging combat, nice camera pov, realistic feeling AI and a strong narrative. Though I can not remember as well now, I believe there were some cringey parts in game that I would just like to add since I only praised the game in my review. That's all.
Outlast, PC
I dont play horror games since I'm a wuss and I dislike jumpscares but I appreciate a horror setting and its elements. This led me to play the game with god mode enabled and infinite batteries since I just wanted it to cross it off my backlog and it was just a breeze as expected. This was a major detach from the horror experience and wasnt how the game was supposed to be played but I digress, its a game that I own anyway. Even though I failed to see how glorious of a horror title it was, I appreciate the ideas that went behind this that made it such a compelling experience. My only critique is that the story at the end is kind of wack, they ruined an already immersive experience with some supernatural bs, I only wished they stayed more grounded to reality which was what made it effective in the first place. I don't look forward to playing the sequels.
Shadow Warrior (2013), PC
Ahh yes asian doom. I believe this was my first ever steam game having gotten it from a giveaway which was a nice welcome in my first days of steam. Fast paced, gory and chaotic, the combat is very satisfying especially with the variety of abilities you have in your arsenal. The story is actually pretty good, I liked the backstory behind your demon friend. Its a game that doesn't take itself seriously and I love it, its wacky and humorous. Overall, a really good game. I love this game, such a shame with the path they took with its sequel, instead of embracing doom they became borderlands. But at least the third sequel is going back to its roots.
The Stanley Parable, PC
Short and charming. Definitely a memorable indie title. I adore this game very much. It doesn't take itself seriously, its wacky, unique, and funny especially narrator man is hilarious. I vibe with the guy. It was fun trying to get all the different endings. This game's quirkiness really shows how sometimes videogames are also a platform to create art. I wish I can say more about this game but I currently cant recall much having played this game in the 1st quarter of yesteryear. Needless to say, indie games truly are a space for less formulaic more creative concepts and Stanley Parable is an exemplar of that.
A Short Hike, PC
A short and sweet adventure. Such a charming little game. The game's goal is fairly simplistic, you play as this bird whose main objective is to reach the summit of a mountain to get better phone signal. While it might seem straightforward, the world will captivate you enough to stray away from your goal for quite a while. The world is pretty interesting and cute, you have a small map to explore with various npcs that have their own little activities to them where at first you cant do much but as you progress you are now able to fulfill their demands it just gets more satisfying after finishing each task. There are various activities to do like racing, gliding, and some platforming segments that require you to backtrack and as you do, you explore and unlock more of the world. There's even an addictive beach volleyball(?) minigame that I really took the time to beat. The traversal is really fun complemented by the fun movement mechanics as you are able to spread your wings and glide around then there are these collectible feathers that allow you to increase your max altitude and duration. I like the way they implemented your character's movement mechanics so that you can't just fly your way up, it requires a bit of a challenge to maneuver and traverse the environment, some requiring you to backtrack and or hunt for more of those collectible golden feathers. The story is pretty sweet, thats all I can say to it. I finished the game, finished all the optional objectives and collected all the collectibles. Its a worthwhile experience, short but it's cute, chill, charming, and fun.
Abzu, PC
There is little much that I can say about Abzu granted that I didn't really fully realize my experience back then as I was on a spree to finish as much games as possible which definitely impacts the overall potential of a game's experience hence the case with Abzu. I know the good qualities that make Abzu great, of course I played it so I should be aware but that is the problem, I only know but failed to understand. Playing this game, I didnt just speedrun it, my approach was slow paced and to explore every bit of the levels, I believe I took the time to savor the calm moments it had while observing the spectacular aquatic scenery, yet it wasnt still as memorable as some reviews would have pointed out to be. I understand that some games are just not for some people but if a game this great just flew over my head after experiencing it, I cant help to ponder if I just did the game such a disservice with the way I played. Recalling this game of memories past might also have impacted this review of mine since I'm reviewing games a year later but then I really struggle to remember memorable moments with the game which further grounds my review. Anyway, in summary, I sing the same praises the game has already received from its calm inducing atmosphere, gorgeous scenery, relaxing vibe and chill soundtrack, objectively a great game but subjectively not much of a memorable title for me.
A Story About My Uncle, PC
An alright platforming game where its strongest asset is in its movements. The only bliss I got from a game's movement mechanics is from Titanfall, this is the second time I got to experience the same feeling. Concept is good especially considering they were first conceptualized by students before being developed into a full game. The world is kinda weird but cute in a way that fits its narrative. I didnt knew at the time that this was an indie game so it kind of impacted my view on the game a bit as I was expecting a bit more but now I unable to readjust my views since since I fail to recall the game's context anymore, I wish I took notes back then. This leads me to not understanding why it has very high ratings on steam as I believed it wasnt that much phenomenal to deserve such ratings but I wish I understood more of the context as to what made it great.
Inside, PC
A great platformer with an interesting story and unique concept. Playdead really hits the spot with how they craft platformers in a grim setting. Having played Limbo, it doesn't stray much away from the formula with the controls controlling the way its been and the endings always leave you perplexed. It's just such a charming game with the way it just controls and feels, with the narrative executed the way it is without dialogue and context yet steadily painting a picture of the whole scenario while you try to piece out what's happening as you progress. Overall, a solid title that's more than just a puzzling platformer.
An Old Man's Journey, PC
Unique short puzzler platformer. Its a point and click adventure with an emphasis on moving layers of the level to traverse, it is a unique concept that is primarily what you spend most of your time solving, besides that there's really not much that you can do but it didn't need to anyway considering its just a very short campaign. The scenery is calm and beautiful to look at, the artstyle is good that just incites calmness while the animation makes it look cute. But despite its calm and endearing feel, the end of your journey is quite saddening, you really feel for the old man : ( . All in all, a nice and sweet experience.
Portal, PC
Fun unique short charming puzzler. Portal is a household name in gaming but I just finished it last year. What I thought was simply going to be a straightforward puzzle game had plenty of surprises which is easy to see why it garnered such praise and became such a classic mainstay in gaming history. Though at the time I was playing I wasn't much in awe but viewing this from a decade old standpoint I can see how this is such a groundbreaking title at the time, especially in the context back then that I read once in this sub. Now in gameplay, this game literally got you thinking in portals. The unique concept is complemented by good puzzle designs and it just conveys itself very well regardless of age. I'm proud that I was clever enough to finish the game without using any walkthrough. The humor is also on point too especially with the narrator GladOS which reminds me a lot of the Stanley Parable. Graphics still manage to hold up well in the current decade granted you run it on max which is a simple task for modern machines. Overall, Portal is a lovable game full of flair and oozing with personality that offers plenty of surprises with an excellent execution of its concepts and mechanics. I'm looking forward to what Portal 2 has to offer.
Batman: Arkham Origins, PC
The series that just keeps on getting better. An upgrade from the previous game, if I thought Arkham City couldnt get any better I thought wrong. At first I was kind of wary since not a lot of people were too keen on this game but after quite some time I couldnt see any reason to hate it, in fact it didnt do anything wrong, every aspect was an upgrade. Satisfying combat as always with new mechanics, combos and weapons. Story is pretty nice, Im not much of a critic as long as I get to play as the Bat I'm sold. Boss fights a plenty, perhaps the most number of bosses in the series yet iirc. Side content is pretty great, nice amount of variety that it was actual not much of a bore to do. To sum it up, a great game, I dont have much negative to say that I can remember only praises. Can't wait to play Arkham Knight!
Doom (2016), PC
Ahh Doom, what can be further said from all the praise this game has garnered. I haven't been born in the early age of gaming hence this was my first doom title and I'm just in time for the modern remake. The extremely satisfying, tense, gory, fast paced and chaotic combat is easily doom 2016's best aspect, the level design, weapon progression, collectibles, secrets, and tiny bits of lore are all just icing on top that complements the already magnificent gameplay. I find it funny how I used to be scared of the zombies at the beginning when they were just one-hittable fodder later on. One minor gripe I only had was there were far too few bosses for a game that's this satisfying. Solid title, I'm looking forward to rip and tear Eternally.
Kingdom Rush, Mobile
A classic tower defense title. I tried to complete every stars for each level and I think I only missed 2 levels since I was too lazy to complete it. A fun and challenging game, I loved the variety of troops that you are able to use especially the way you can upgrade them. Even the hardest challenges aren't too difficult to finish but the completionist within me always restarts a level when even 1 enemy slips through since I wanted to have a perfect run to nab those stars, tedious and annoying at times but I'm glad I tried the harder difficulties since it made me strategize better which in turn should make me a better gamer. I always force myself to play on hard difficulty to change my behavior to play better otherwise I would just resort to lazy and mindless approaches. Continuing, the game is neat and I'm interested in playing other future titles in the series.
Battleborn, PS4
I love the hero shooter genre and this was a no brainer to try especially that it has a campaign. I love each of the popular hero shooter games line up during the peak of the genre, namely Paladins, Overwatch and Battleborn. I'm a simple guy that can appreciate anything in everything so I really do not understand the hate towards the non-overwatch games even when they are absolutely decent titles, more so with battleborn being a complete experience and having more content than overwatch. It's been said many times before I'll just reiterate, it's a shame that battleborn was released the same time as overwatch, it was one, if not the leading reason that led it to be dismissed and ignored which eventually led to its downfall, and after 4 years of living off its life support it is finally being laid to rest this month of January 2021. A true shame for it had a lot of personality, a lot of soul and love that went into making its universe, the naysayers are the ones to be shamed for they fail to see how much of a great game this is compared to the competition. With Gearbox being the developers, the game is as wacky and humorous as their other well known title Borderlands and that's what I love about their games. There are a lot of unique characters and mechanics in game, an in-depth system is in place which adds a ton of variety with your playstyle, the same way why I adore Paladins as well. The only thing I hate about it is how they made this an online only title, live service is the bane of my existence.
Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, PS4
A game I was disappointed at first but grew on me the more I go. Coming from the previous title Garden Warfare 2, I came with plenty of the same expectations in tow; local coop gameplay modes, hero variants, a big home battlefield map with the same amounts of hidden secrets and whatnot, and then some. I instinctively searched for these features upon booting up the game but what I got was a small home battleground with no layers of exploration and secrets, no hero variants, and at the very least not even local coop gameplay modes. I thought 'wow I was scammed' for purchasing a game with very lackluster features. But as it turns out this was an entire new game thus entailing new features and approaches. It wasn't that the game was lacking in content, I just didn't knew where to look and every gripe I had was quickly resolved as I came to discover more of the game. Brimming with content as much as its predecessor with quests, side activities, game modes as well as a brand new class progression, they stand toe to toe with each other that its difficult to see which one is superior. I loved the hell out of Garden Warfare 2 but I also appreciate this new one, a worthy successor to GW2. Its just sad the last update hit for the game that was just 2 yrs of age, sucks to be an online only game.
Suicide Squad Special Ops, Mobile
I counted this as finished despite there not really being a story since I figured I unlocked all of that there is to the map anyway and that was the main objective I set to accomplish. Its an alright endless wave shooter mobile game yet of course severely lacking but I can not really judge this the same way as a full game. Anyhow for what its worth, the gameplay is basically fun which is what matters, the core gameplay is very meager you just run in circles killing bad guys while your weapon auto shoots and then every 5 wave or so an upgrade box drops and you can incrementally upgrade your stats, very basic but its decent enough for a mobile game. You are able to swap to any squad member and each have their own thing to them, I kinda wish they programmed more characters and more gameplay but you can't really hope much for these types of movie tie-in games. Graphics are nice, just goes to show how much potential there is to create a console like experience on mobile but sadly there isn't much interest. The whole experience was just alright, nothing was great and considering the type of game it was and the platform, theres really nothing too bad to say, it sufficed to say the very least,
Scribblenauts Remix, Mobile
A game where the limit is your imagination (or your vocabulary). The first game in the series, the concept is unique and the art style is both charming and cute. It is a puzzle game first and a sandbox game second. Puzzles are quite easy, only getting challenging when you attempt to do multiple playthroughs to get a red crown from a level which is an optional task. It was fun solving them since there's a myriad of ways you can approach each problem, especially when you let your creative juices flow like riding a pterodactyl or using a jetpack in lieu of using a car to cross a bridge normally. Sometimes I hit a roadblock despite a rather simple objective since sometimes there are specific items that I do not know of. Overall, a neat and fun cute puzzle game. I'm interested in playing the sequels.
Dead Cells, Mobile
Surprise hit of the year. I cant really recall what led me to play this game in the first place since I wasnt too keen on playing indie games but I'm really glad I did. This game changed my perspective on indie games, it doesn't need to be 3D or have good graphics to be a great experience. I wasnt a fan of pixel graphics and merely dismissed every pixel looking game that I have come across, but now I'm actively looking for pixel games haha. This was also my first roguelite, a genre Im also not entirely keen on since the concept of restarting all over again was something absurd but after experiencing it in this game, it wasnt all too bad. Gameplay is challenging, especially on harder difficulties in which I'm still trying to break away from the first boss cell. This game got me really addicted, even if it was somehow repetitive the gameplay always had me coming back for more. Experimenting with builds, hunting for blueprints, grinding, speed running, and or just general fucking around, theres a lot of ways to have fun in this game. My only regret was not playing in the superior PC version since I played this on mobile which is behind in updates which leads me now in a quite a dilemma, to wait for an update that may never come on mobile or to finally begin anew in PC.
My Friend Pedro, PC
Short, wacky and satisfying unique side scrolling platformer shooter with an interesting narrative. Gunplay is satisfying and awesome, its one of key selling points in this game as seen on the trailer and I remember the hype surrounding it back then. Game mechanics has several unique innovations such as the ricochet mechanic and skating which is really fun. There are two ways to approach this game, you can either go guns blazing as I believe the game is supposed to be fast paced anyway but the existence of the slow mo mechanic also allows for calculated plays but I find going pew pew is the most entertaining and satisfying. There's a degree of skill needed to master the gunplay but I didnt spend enough time to master it unfortunately. There are some platforming segments which I find is the weakest part of the game since it takes you out of the action and what is my friend pedro if you're not max payne bullet time 360 spinning dual wielding your pistols shooting 2 bad guys at the same time as you swap to your sniper then roll and kick a knife into a bad guy as you take his weapon then ricochet the bullet onto another bad guy all done in the span of 10 secs? Story wise, the revelation in the end was pretty nice. The banana character is pretty lmao with deadpool-like wackiness. Some of the soundtrack is pretty cool making you feel like John Wick at times. To wrap it up, My Friend Pedro is an extremely fun game and an even enjoyable combat with an interesting story, it innovated on many areas which makes the game more entertaining and unique making it a memorable indie title. A worthwhile purchase.
Left 4 Dead 2, PC
Best zombie shooter game of all time. The OG. We have all played this game one way or another. Extremely satisfying, tense and chaotic zombie shooting. I love the variable paths and rng looting valve has implemented with the AI director, it makes the next couple of playthroughs feel less static. The AI director also controls zombie behavior and it does a very good job at it. This game's zombie AI is top tier, they flank you, surround you, special infected hide when spotted and wait for a better opportunity to attack, and they even strafe while running towards you to make them harder to shoot. After finishing the campaign, I wanted more challenge and played on realism and I'm glad I did. It went from mindless zombie shooter to tactical zombie shooter. There is a big emphasis on teamwork, resource management and strategy in this mode or harder difficulties, its a mode for the big boys. It beats your ass a lot of times but once you reach that safe house, its a better feeling than sex, and you cant change my mind.
The Walking Dead S1, PC
Classic. Finished this for the third time but this time on PC since my previous playthroughs were done on android. Played this again since I had the walking dead collection installed and I been meaning to play S2 for so long now. Still the compelling narrative I know and love, as intense and heartbreaking as my first playthrough. It hit harder when youre older though. I loved the dialogue the most in this game, it let me learn a bunch of new phrases and I appreciate every opportunity that I get to improve my english skills. While you don't really play this for the gameplay but it suffice for the type of interactive narrative they were going for which, love it or hate it, is the telltale formula. Now onto the next installment.
The Walking Dead S2, PC
Finally the moment to answer all my unresolved thoughts has come. It was kinda pathetic how they just threw the OG group away in favor of the new cast, which I don't really vibe with, there were only a few selects I liked. OG group still the best group, perhaps I haven't spent more time with these new ones but I'm open to change my mind in future replays if I'm in the mood. I'm glad atleast one of the original members and my main man in the previous game Kenny came back. I was extremely hyped af the first time seeing him, but seeing him gradually change for the worst to his inevitable downfall as I didn't choose to side with him in the end was really heartbreaking. And that Lee flashback had me feeling like clem, i just want my father figure to come back and protect me from this cruel world. The narrative in this one wasn't as strong to the S1 but this was interesting and a rather nice experience despite some flaws. There was less interactivity here which results in even lesser dialogue in comparison to the first and that bummed me out as I liked exploring every clickable object and exhausting every dialogue opportunity before moving on to the next. Good game but not as great. I'm not as excited to play the next one since I'm not sure if my little bb clem is going to be the star since she's the only one I only care for now.
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, PC
Played on a whim since I wanted to play all the decent spidey games available on PC being a spider-man fan and I'm glad I really played this one. One word that I can say about the entirety of this game is that its AMBITIOUS and they nailed it absolutely right. They nailed every ambitious concept they have, from the playable spider-men, unique level design, amount of bosses to the gameplay mechanics. Really an amazing experience despite the clunkiness of old gen.
World War Z, PC
GOTY. Can't believe they just give away this AAA for free. I used to be a skeptic since I heard it has a lot in common with Left 4 Dead and I never really bothered to check more into it but after the Epic giveaway I figured why not and I'm glad I did. Phenomenal level design, gorgeous graphics, quality production and most importantly, solid gameplay. The addition of classes and weapon progression brings a lot of replayability after finishing the main game. The swarm engine that they use is very fascinating, it's baffling how they managed to cram 1k zekes in a single instance without my system not even breaking a sweat! Mad props to Saber Interactive on this one.
Halo Reach, PC
My last game of the year. Decided to download the Master Chief Collection and finally start my journey in the world of Halo. Only reason I played reach first is because it is the first in chronological events and the first title in the MCC menu so I thought why not this will serve as a primer for the main games, but that was not the case. As far as I'm concerned, gameplay and storyline is solid. Though, gunplay felt weak for me, feedback on the enemy getting shot is poor i cant tell if they were even getting hit or not while on the other hand ammo runs out rather quickly for these bullet sponges. Graphics are great looking in its high definition glory. This is my first foray into the world of Halo and I should've played the earlier games first before this so at least I was initiated as to what the hell is going on, nonetheless I still enjoyed it albeit not the full experience I couldve gotten. It doesnt help that there isnt any subtitles in game so I was pretty clueless as to what the hell is going on currently. Playing on Heroic was a mistake since I was in it for the story with the gameplay coming second, despite being extremely frustrated with the annoying AI and one hit explosives I managed to finish it anyway. Due for replay soon once I managed to finish the main games. Also, this is basically star wars rogue one.

My Personal Recommendations for New Players to GFN! (Long)

This will be purely based off the games I've played so far (maybe even on different platforms), I'll tailor each to specific genres and if there's some genre I missed (I will miss out racing games since I'm sure it's just Assetto Corsa and The Crew thats on there) be sure to comment and I or maybe some more well-fielded Redditor will give reference, here goes:
So for shooters you DO have a few big names, but certainly not the biggest since EA and Activision don't support GFN which takes CoD, Battlefield, Titanfall and Overwatch away. However there is very good and popular ones supported:
For Survival/Battle Royale games you have good options for the Survival side but since the two of the biggest name BRs (Warzone and PUBG) aren't available I'm combining this list:
MMO/RPGs, combining this list since I'm not experienced and as far as I am aware for traditional RPGs, Japanese or Western there is a huge lack of them. Elder Scrolls, Fallout even Final Fantasy and my personal favourite, Dark Souls aren't on here.
Crossplay titles, this list is for those cross platform friends that still want to play together. Honestly, I've spent a good time trying to find these sort of games but with it on the up and up I'm sure the games you see will vary wildly in the future.
Honourable mentions:
If I were to pick just one to start with:
Rainbow Six Siege, hands down. The toxic community in my opinion is the only real downside, it's easy to get into, it's cheap because it's always on sale, it's not plagued by mechanics that are over two decades old which have been perfected by people (ahem CSGO) and it teaches you the fundamentals of a shooter just like Counter Strike also does. It may seem overwhelming at first but there's a set of tutorial videos and mission, a Newcomer playlist and Operators that are easy yet give the team a benefit quickly such as Rook, Jager or Sledge and Ash.

Gambling

As this is a Casino-centric update, there's plenty of ways to gamble away your hard-grinded money.
The gambling in this game centers around a new form of currency, called Chips. These chips are pretty much like real-world gambling chips, with a one-to-one dollar value, except you keep your chips when you leave the casino. Chips are an actual currency in GTA Online, as they can be used to purchase exclusive items from a shop inside the casino, along with being used to bet with when playing the Gambling Games, listed below
  • Slot Machines: There's plenty of options to choose from, but they all perform the same way. Spend some chips, and let the RNG decide whether or not you earn anything from it.
  • Blackjack: Casino style blackjack with up to four simultaneous players, all of which play against the dealer. Anyone who beats the dealer individually wins, anyone who the dealer beats individually loses, and if the dealer gets Blackjack (an Ace and 10/face-card), everyone immediately loses. Assuming your initial hand isn't a Blackjack, you have the option of doubling-down, which doubles your initial bet with the caveat of only being able to hit once.
  • Poker: Three-card poker. You make your bets, check your hand, and similar to Blackjack, each player wins if their hand is better than the dealer's, and the dealer beats whoever has a worse hand than him. While there is no option to double-down, how much you win does depend on how good of a hand you have. The better your hand, the more you win. Also, while you can fold your hand, you lose your initial bet anyway.
  • Horse Racing: Pretty much standard horse racing bettering. You choose a horse, you put your money down, and if you bet correctly, you get double the amount you bet in return. Otherwise, you just lose the amount you bet.
To gain more chips, there is a counter inside the casino where you can buy them, however you are limited in how many you can buy per day (real-world 24 hours). As standard, you can buy a maximum of 20,000 chips per day, but if you own a penthouse of any tier, you can buy up to 50,000 chips per day. Chips can also be traded in for money, but there does not appear to be a limit on this. No matter how many chips you win from gambling, it appears that you can trade them all in at once for the equivalent dollar value.
Lastly, there is the Wheel. It's a roulette wheel that you can only spin once per day, which costs $500 per spin. There are twenty reward slots, and since some rewards are in multiple slots, they have greater chances of being selected. The biggest note about this wheel however is that there is one slot in which you can win a free car! What makes this so significant is that since the car takes a 1/20 slot on the wheel, that means you still have a 5% chance of winning a free high-value vehicle! Compared to most online games, that's pretty much the most generous RNG you can get.

FAQ

Are there any differences between the penthouses
For once, yes! Well, technically... they're the same basic property layout, but each option gives you different addon options.
  • The Cash Pad: The basic Penthouse with no property addons available . You cannot purchase a garage, extra bedroom, lounge, etc. with the Cash Pad. You can, however, purchase penthouse customizations (colour and wall patterns).
  • The Party Penthouse: Gives you certain of the addon options: the main Penthouse, the Extra Bedroom, the Lounge Area, the Spa, and the Bar and Party Hub. You are locked to these options, no more, no less.
  • The High Roller: Gives you all of the property addons as standard, and the most expensive penthouse customization options... this means that you cannot choose your own colour and wall patterns with this version.
  • The "Design Your Own": ...What should be the standard option. It gives you the basic penthouse and allows you to choose which addons and customizations you want, with an extra cost for each one, of course. Just get this one. You can also renovate this option later, allowing you to purchase more addons and change your customizations later.
What do the Penthouse Addons do?
  • Lounge Area: Allows you to purchase the other Penthouse Addons (except for the Extra Bedroom and Garage, which are the only items addons that can be purchased without a Lounge).
  • Media Room: You know the cinemas around Los Santos? The ones that play a few 5 minute animated films on repeat? That, but in a Penthouse.
  • Spa: Gives you access to a hot tub and a Personal Stylist. The Stylist's services are the same as the ones spread around Los Santos (hair, contacts, and make up), but they're all free.
  • Bar and Party Hub: Allows you to consume drinks that instantly intoxicate your character, along with access to special arcade games that aren't available anywhere else in the game.
  • Private Dealer: Allows you to play gambling games in your penthouse.
  • Office: Adds a standard computer, a Gun Locker, and a money vault (don't get excited, it's just aesthetic).
  • Extra Bedroom: Bedrooms in owned properties in GTA Online are used as spawn points, so why can you pay to have an extra one? Because you can now allow a friend of yours to claim it! The Extra Bedroom allows a friend of yours to use your penthouse as a spawn apparently, though the exact implementation of this is not completely clear.
  • Garage: Access to the Penthouse's garage bay.
How do I get the armored car?
  • To recieve the Enus Paragon R (Armoured), you have to complete the Diamond Casino's mission series, which you must own a penthouse to access. Once of the missions are complete, you'll be given the vehicle for free! But remember, it's uninsured and you only get it once, so immediately go into passive mode and take it to the nearest Los Santos Customs to insure it, or else you could lose the vehicle permanently.

Passive Mode

Good news, passive mode has been fixed!
  • Passive Mode can now no longer be active when using a weaponized vehicle
  • A Passive Mode cooldown of 2 minutes is now in place for players who have just killed another player
  • Players now must wait 5 minutes before they can activate Passive Mode again after disabling it
  • Players now must wait 30 seconds before they can disable Passive Mode after activating it
These changes make is so that grievers can no longer abuse passive mode, or at least no where near as easily. If you start to get the upper-hand on a griefer and destroy whatever death-machine they're using to troll you, or if you confront them in a death-machine of your own, they can't abuse Passive Mode to try to get the upper-hand on you!

Solo Session

Check the Mega Guide for ways to push yourself into a public Online session with no one else in it. Keep in mind that some missions and abilities are unavailable if there's no one else with you though!

Bugs and Glitches

  • Apparently on PS4 and Xbox One, you must have full size of GTA V available to download the update, so if you have less than ~60GB free, you may have trouble downloading the update. This does not mean that the entire game is re-downloaded, it just means that the update may not download if you don't have that much space available.

In depth guide from a Tuner

My IGN is SpideryHawk560 because I don't care to change it.
I will put this up front, so people don't have to read the whole post to get to it: If you have a car you like, but all your tunes are crap, let me know, and I might be able to do something about it. I have a few extra cars in my garage as well that I wouldn't mind getting rid of if anyone wants to buy one of them with a custom tune. Just let me know if you are interested, and what class and race type you do, and I will personalize an auction to you at a fair price. If anyone is a good driver and wants to try and set a leaderboard record, I will do tunes for that as well, and I can use my formulas to adjust vehicles very precisely.
This will probably be a long post, because I am going to go a bit into depth with what the biggest flaws I see people making in Forza based on my experience consistently carrying teams, and making tunes that I know are never going to be the most downloaded, because the 1-10 numerical system for tunes is meaningless and most people never learn enough of the nuance of setups to be able to tell if a car tune is good or not, so they just download stupid high power tunes that handle like garbage, and encourage people to do stupid stuff like ram in the corners, and AWD swap literally everything, and I am going to basically explain why this is a crutch that will prevent you from ever being good at this game, and consistently winning races, whether its against humans or unbeatable drivetars.
Power is super over rated. Every car in this game no matter what downforce or tires you put on it will become traction limited at some point. Usually this is in the lower speed range, and most players never touch gearing, if they ever even bother to use the racing gearbox which generally ruins your car if you DON'T mess with the gearing making it one of the best upgrades for good tuners, and one of the worst for players who have no idea what they are doing. What power really means for a car is at what speeds are you no longer traction limited, what is the top speed of the vehicle (usually not relevant unless on a course with very long straights), and acceleration at high speeds. This is something that has to be balanced against aero, and all cars have some type of aero baked into their base stats, whether it is just drag, or if they have baked in some of the aero to mechanical grip (which is OP, but I will discuss this later).
AWD is overrated. I know the first thing all the scrubs do is engine swap and AWD swap every car ever all the time. This is because most people drive on crappy setups, and they are compensating for a crappy setup with things that rather than prevent mistakes, reduce the penalty when you make them such as ramming, wall rubbing, going off track ect, or out of desperation to not have to do overtakes by taking early leads in races. If you swap a vehicle to AWD the game penalizes you pretty with a turning radius penalty (which is bad in low speed corners) and it bakes in mechanical losses which works the same way in Forza as aerodynamic drag as a top speed penalty which means horsepower doesn't scale well at higher speeds. This is problematic because a good driver that doesn't have these penalties applied only needs to have ONE good corner to pass you and not make any mistakes, and it will be literally impossible to catch them all other things considered equal because they will have higher cornering speeds, higher power, and better high speed acceleration. With regards to raming, its a stupid tactic, and yes, sometimes you will get screwed over, but if you get used to driving cars that are properly setup, rammers will more often than not screw themselves over than you, and at the end of the day it is about consistency and winning, and you don't want to be stuck midfield battling it out with a bunch of brain dead rammers. Its better to find a good way to slip by, and then you will literally never see them again. The only time this isn't the case is the stupidest class of racing in the game, which is X class, because most cars end up with such an absurd amount of power and now way to effectively put it to the ground except for AWD, and the top speeds of some of those vehicles are already stupid. As a general rule of thumb, in X class, its not really racing. There is no way to break down exactly what rating every car has, so there is a single right answer vehicle wise to what is the fastest car in X class, and even if you are playing it, you aren't going to actually get good at driving. X class cars can still be useful for seasonal objectives, or setting records if you have patience, but that is just a flaw in the way the game records records, as track records should be class based, but they are not at the moment.
Tires are the limiting factor for every vehicle in the game, period. Every tune you ever do should basically start with what class you are building the vehicle for, and what tires can you can run in that class. Tires are single handedly the best upgrade in the game, and people running AWD so they can get away with running lower grade tires are going to get smoked by a good driver in any class C-S2, at least this has been my experience with seasonal objectives co-op games against unbeatable drivetars where consistency is super important. AI isn't going to generally just let you get away with much, and they are always going to start in the front, and the lead AI player is always substantially faster than all of the other AI players, meaning that unless its a very strange format, you aren't going to be able to take first place in the first straightaway, meaning how consistent your car is is extremely important, and you aren't going to get 2nd chances.
Next most important upgrades are suspension (for the ability to maximize mechanical grip, which gives you PR free grip if properly tuned). I will usually do ASB's as well because they are very PR cheap, but almost always add way too much stiffness. The ground is way too uneven in Horizon to run F1 style super stiff sway bars and you really need suspension to operate very independently. Primary stiffness will come from the springs, and not the ASBs, and using ASB tuning to change oversteer and understeer parameters will make your car slower, since you are sacrificing mechanical grip to do it. I tried out some tuning calculators and found all them to be awful, so I spent some time doing the math to make my own. I will not spill my secret sauce online, but I will tell you default ASBs are always too stiff, and the videos online teaching how to setup suspension are too "feelings" based. There is a reason engineers learn the math, and you should maximize mechanical grip with your suspension, nothing more or less. For rally, install the ASB's and set them to minimum values, the weight reduction is worth it, and the PR cost is super low. That is a freebee tip. As far as spring rates go, most setups by default are too soft, and none of them are properly balanced. Weight distribution and ride height play a huge role, and what spring rate you need to use is logarithmic as a ride Hight of zero would have infinity as the spring rate, and it drops exponentially with every inch, though zero is a divides by zero type of scenario that isn't possible. Suffice it to say, the lower your ride height the exponentially higher your spring rate, and the secret sauce for optimization is in the coefficient you use. I will assume most people here are not going to bother with the math, but for those who are mathematically literate, balance your springs with a consistent coefficient that scales with ride height and weight distribution. Tire width doesn't matter (in FH) because tire width in game doesn't add realistic disadvantages to going wider, meaning you don't have to account for it in any meaningful way. A way to think about balancing suspension is that stiffer springs allow you to run less anti sway, and a small reduction in damper amount. Bump should never be tuned very high. If you are unable to run a high enough spring rate to make up for how low your car is, you can turn up bump to compensate, but this will sacrifice mechanical grip, no matter how you look at it. If you are building a low HP drift car, you can use this trick, but most people just make as much power as possible for drifting, since the most controllable drift cars have long wheel bases, high power, low weight, high grip, and soft suspension setups allowing for the HP to do all the work breaking the tires free, while actually having decent traction making the car a lot more controllable.
Weight, like tires, makes your car better at everything, HOWEVER, for RWD vehicles in particular, shift times are super important. Weight reductions are very expensive on PR, and because the biggest drawback for RWD setups is launch and low speed acceleration, having quick shift times, and the ability to set custom gearing is extremely important. You can essentially build traction control into your car's first gear, and having lower shift times is going to give you much better applied power, since engines don't give you max power at all RPM ranges, so those shift times severely impact your acceleration. The difference in launches between a properly done RWD and AWD setup can be much smaller than most people realize, and you can pick up some free money by having TCS disabled without having to sacrifice anything except in X class (which is negligible anyways). Weight is also nice because players who want to tune their own vehicles for whatever reasons don't have to concern themselves with how to properly setup their vehicle. If you are tuning yourself, and you aren't going to adjust suspension or gearing, stock configuration with tires and weight reductions is your best bet, since the default configurations on upgraded parts almost always totally ruin the characteristics of most cars, but most cars stock drive at least somewhat decently.
50/50 weight distribution isn't actually perfect. Perfect weight distribution is actually closer to 47/53 which is why you see that weight distribution on performance EV's where you can make it whatever you want. https://teslanomics.co/tesla-model-3-price-detailed-specifications/#:~:text=Weight%20distribution%3A,rear%20(Model%203%20Long%20Range)) This is because of weight transfer. When you accelerate, weight transfers to the rear tires, and the front of the vehicle will "lift" while the rear will "squat" meaning the rear tires are doing more than 50% of the accelerating at low speeds (in AWD), or all of it obviously in RWD setups. Having a little more weight in the rear means at a dead stop there is less moment of inertia, giving better traction from 0 MPH. When stopping weight transfers to the front heavily, and having that slight rear bias brings the weight distribution closer to 50/50 in all real world scenarios, so when you hear people say a car has perfect 50/50 weight distribution, it is actually 47/53. Some vehicles will compensate for very bad weight distributions with absurd rear tire track, and rear wings, like the 911 GTs. Roll bars in game are a good way to improve weight distribution on vehicles while GAINING PR in many cases. It isn't always worth going to a full cage, but it is almost always worth looking at how much cage you can run in conjunction with weight reductions (which also reduces poor weight distribution by a lot) before even touching horsepower.
Horsepower should be the last thing you touch in a proper tune. Power to weight is important, but raw power with the exception of top speed and high speed acceleration makes little to no difference, especially over speed ranges that are traction limited, such as race starts, tight tracks, and in general speeds under 130 MPH. Some cars are extremely fast because of intrinsically low drag values such as the McLaren F1, or 2019 Porsche 911 Carrara. Cars that are capable of active aero also tend to have some of their aero grip baked into mechanical grip, and a very low drag value, which means often times adding aero to cars with active aero may actually use up PR for little to no advantage. This is definitely the case on the Porsche 918 spyder. Something else about aero in game, is that it has a very inconsistent level of grip, and for whatever reason Forza does not do a good job of simulating aero, which is probably why they bake it into mechanical grip on many high aero cars such as the VW ID.R and compensate for that with very high drag values. What makes baking aero grip into mechanical grip OP, is that mechanical grip won't "pulse" like aero grip does in game. Aero grip makes cars feel like they are running giant top fuel drag racer tires that are having the sidewalls flex and wobble when you are in a high speed corner, and this means that mechanical grip in game is always better than aero grip of the same value. This is the primary reason why the best classes for racing are A class and S1, where most cars won't need aero or tons of power to race with a PR of 800 or 900 respectively.

YSB - A Gamers Guide to Gamepass Gems

Hey all,
I'm binge_gaming, a life-long gamer of close to 3 decades here today to hopefully give some exposure to some good games I've played, and help some of you looking for your next playthrough try to narrow down your list. I made this post earlier on patientgamers but it was removed and I had some people comment suggesting I crosspost here so here I am. While all the games below are available on gamepass, you could in theory buy them as standalones as well, but since gamepass is a subscription I figured I’d review some of the better games it has to offer.
I'll be honest: There are a lot of games on gamepass. A LOT. I would be lying if I told you all I've played a quarter of them, there are just too many games. Fortunately I have lots of friends that game, and upon recommendations here and there I'll find the time to tackle all the gems that I come across. I'm going to skip some games too, so when I'm going through alphabetically and you don't see a game that you think is a gem, I'd like it if you tell me. I'm always looking to broaden my horizons and experience as much as there is to experience with things I enjoy. As is the case with many reviews, this is totally subjective, you don't have to agree with it, but if you don't, maybe share in the comments below.
Without much further adieu; let me get to this actual list:
Enter The Gungeon: This game is a top-down dungeon explorer bullet hell game. That's certainly a mouthful. You choose between a number of unique characters to go through and complete floor by floor as you descend through the Gungeon exploring. There are many easter eggs, unlockables, and fun things that this game has to offer. Not only was this game very difficult to clear for the first time, it was just the tip of the iceberg. Each playthrough is unique, with different items and weapons spawning in randomly generated dungeon layouts. There are a handful of different bosses available for each floor, and as you play and learn their patterns you begin to progress the story more. This game is a bit tougher to play on console than it is to play on a computer simply because of the controller layout with you aiming with one stick, while moving with the other stick, its difficult to line up the perfect shots and take advantage of certain passive items. Overall you can spend between 15-30 minutes a session (assuming you don't die quickly) because each dungeon is randomly generated, every playthrough is different. I don't normally associate myself with bullet hell games, but this was one I just couldn't put down. I still play it occasionally.
Fallout New Vegas - Stop whatever you're doing right now and download this game. In my opinion, this is the best game of the entire fallout franchise, with the most attention to detail regarding dialogue, characteplot development, as well as so many different roads to the same destination. While New Vegas may not have the graphics of Fallout 76, or Fallout 4, it has the most involved story which makes it the most compelling playthrough of the series. While I enjoyed Fallout 4, New Vegas is a lot more upbeat, and each path that you can pick have drastically different outcomes on the game. This is the type of game that you need to make a save before any major decisions, because you WILL WANT to come back and see what happens if you chose the other option.
Forza Horizon 4 - I must profess I am a bit of motorhead. I grew up loving cars, going to car shows on the weekend, and watching every single awful fast and furious that has ever premiered. I hated most car games with a passion. They were either way too realistic(Forza Motorsport/Project Gotham) and therefore difficult to pick up and play enjoyably, or they were too nonsensical (NFS/Burnout) and easy. Forza Horizon has managed to find a middle ground to appeal to any type of gamer. Whether or not you love cars, you can find something in this game to enjoy. The amount of customization that goes into this game is bonkers. You can paint every single one of your cars, however you want, you can tune them however you want, you can download other people's tunes/paint jobs. Some people play this game, and just spend their time making art on cars I'm not even kidding. Obviously the game features all sorts of racing, player vs player, player vs computer, players vs players, players vs computers, you name it. Cars are split by classes, and races are split by types. There's road racing, street racing, dirt racing, cross country, drifting, team adventure games, time trials, and some horrible battle royale love child that you need to play at least once... and SO MUCH MORE. This game's story mode is truly a work of art. Not only are the graphics on par with the best of the best, but each week the season in game will change, making the open world change based on the season, affecting driving conditions as well. Forza Horizon 4 takes place in Great Britain, and many of the story mode missions feature driving British cars while learning about the history of the camanufacturer. There is so much to do in this game I really can't harp on how amazing it is.
Gears Franchise - I have to say, the newest gears of war is not that good. Growing up I loved to play with my buddies on gears 1-3, after that I only played them for their story modes. As a third person cover-based shooter, this game did something unique enough to warrant it's place here on my list. There's something uniquely satisfying about using a Lancer to chainsaw people in half in the middle of playing. I did play Gears 4 and Gear 5 in the last couple months because I wanted to complete the campaign, and it was kinda a breeze. I had a buddy that I co-op'ed with and we enjoyed chatting and clearing it. This is no Halo franchise, but it's a decent play.
Halo Master Chief Collection/Halo 5 - If you own an Xbox, and you have never played halo I don't think we could be friends. This game was my childhood. Countless nights spent playing campaign, playing online with friends on slayer, good god, the number of hours I've spent collectively on this franchise is probably staggering. Why? IT IS JUST THAT GOOD. Halo 1 and 2 have been visually upgraded, but you can still playthrough them in their pixelly glory should you desire. The online matchmaking is still alive and well, with you able to choose between competitive and social lists. Halo MCC is also couch-co-opable so grab your spouse, your brother, or just play by yourself. There are hours upon hours of just campaign to be played on the Master Chief Collection. The complete story from Reach - Halo 5 is amazing, and if you wanted to buy reach/ODST to complete the story, it wouldn't be the worst purchase you'd ever made.
Lego Star Wars 3 - Another Couch Co-op, this silly game is kinda fun and my recommendation for any of you gamer parents looking to play with your younger children without exposing them to anything inappropriate. The game, while intended for children, has many puzzles and optional side missions to complete that can help keep you busy. Most of the Lego franchise games are solid couch-co-op options, and I felt compelled to leave an option here for the younger audience gamers.
Mass Effect - Despite being the first of the trilogy, mass effect has aged pretty well. Graphics aren't as good as the newer ones, but similar to Fallout New Vegas, this one got the campaign and character development so right that it's absolutely worth playing. You can pick specific paths that lead to different conclusions, so again, make sure you save before you make any big decisions.
Monster Hunter World - I was very skeptical of this game when I downloaded it because I had such a horrible taste in my mouth from playing monster hunter freedom on the PSP. You essentially hunt very large monsters with a variety of different weapons. Each monster has it's own unique skillsets and weaknesses, and each weapon has it's own unique advantages and disadvantages. There are a total of 14 weapons that you can use, including bows/guns/swords/hammers/spears and all manner of craziness. You can hunt in teams of up to 4 or by yourself, and explore the world while collecting materials to craft items/weapons/armor. This game is very pretty, and ever since the new Iceborne DLC came out, the armor that you can choose to start with at the beginning of the game is very strong and can help ease yourself into the game.
Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Recently, on patientgamers I've seen a ton of posts talking about how great hollow knight is, and I just can't even with it anymore. Hollow knight is not that great I'm sorry, play Ori and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about; Graphics? Ori. Story? Ori. Mechanics? Ori. I get that people enjoy the dark-souls-esque and the off-brand animation style, but there's not even a comparison. Some areas in Ori require you to masteperfectly execute a minute of mechanics and the payoff for finally completing it is big time. I'm not normally fond of metroidvanias, but this one I just could not put down. This game is truly an artistic masterpiece.
Rocket League - Its like they took mario kart, fifa, and added rockets to your car. This game is probably my favorite game right now, its highly competitive and there is so much to learn. There are items you can trade to customize your car, and events from time to time to give you freebies too. If you like cars or soccer and have not tried this game you really need to. If you watch pros play this game you'll probably psych yourself out because they're doing things you probably can't even dream of, but trust that their matchmaking system matches with people of similar skill so as you progress your teammates and opponents will too. It can cater to all levels of gamers.
There are certainly more games I didn't include that could have their places on an honorable mentions list, but I feel like that'll dilute from the games I have listed above. Please feel free to include any suggestions below.
Thanks and happy gaming!

Don’t Trust the Doves

The Doves! She screamed, and that was the last thing I hear come out of her mouth.
All started when the restaurant where I used to work went out of business due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a Tuesday evening, oh God how I hate Tuesday, they are too close to Mondays but too far from Fridays, but anyway, the business wasn’t doing so hot in the last months and with the pandemic the slowing sinking ship went full titanic in no time, and we the hardworking employees were the ones that drowned.
I was sinking in debt and this is the last thing I needed, you see 2 years ago I was homeless, after my father died due to lung cancer, produced by a life of smoking, the bank foreclose our home, and I ended in the street.
I must admit I never did much with my life and that is something I regret. After the loss of my home I must had applied for a hundred jobs, but there is just so much you can do with a Theater degree, this harsh reality send me back into an spiral of depression that later transformed into drug abuse, as messed up as my old man was I am sure he wouldn’t had approved of the life I was living, dam how I miss that old man.
So here I was living under a bridge at 26 years of age on 12th avenue, one of my childhood nightmares had become my reality. I remember that every day that passed felt like a dream, I was numb to the world, people passing by stared at me, some gave me a buck others cursed at me, but most of them just ignored me, like if I was part of the street, like if I was an object and inconvenience.
One night however all changed, a group of other homeless came to the bridge, and demanded that it was “their spot”, then proceed to ask me for money, I denied them thus sparking their anger, one of the men did a rear naked chock to immobilize me and the other started to punch me in the stomach, the pain was terrible, and just when I thought that I would pass out, I heard this outer worldly noise, the noise sounded like a mixture of a growling dog and a high pitch squeal, suddenly my assailant fell to the ground, the other man took his arms out of my neck screaming “dammit not Mad Larry” and fled.
I felt to the floor due to the pain that was inflicted by the punches, when I looked up I saw it… and extremely slender and tall figure, long beard, fairy wide open eyes and an stench of alcohol and filth that made me want to puke.
The man extended his bony hand to me saying “Are you ok pal?” I took it and he helped me to stand on my feet.
“Name is Larry” he presented himself
“You shouldn’t be alone around here, is a dog eat dog world Pal, ya know” he said with a grin on his face.
Since that time Larry and I became friends, we shared food, protected each other and told stories about the old good days. Apparently, he was an ex veteran that worked for a military base in the outskirts of the city and got double crossed losing his job or at least that was the story most of the time, sometimes he said he lost his wife and that made him consume industrial amounts of meth, you see Larry was a very nice guy but he didn’t make sense 50% of the time, for what I gathered the amount of drugs he had consumed had affected his reasoning greatly, hence he was called Mad Larry.
One night a local gang approached us, they were trying to extort money from us, I wanted to comply, but Larry, well, you know Larry. He launch into the air screaming, and kicked one of the gang member in the chest, however this confrontation didn’t went like the others, the gang member were too many, they got baseball bats and chains, Larry could not hold them back, we barely escaped with our lives when the police arrived and scared the gang members, after that night Larry and I made a promise, this was the last of it, we will try to get our life back.
I got offered help at a Saint. Peters church, in a matter of months I was clean and got a job at a local restaurant and Larry well, that was the last time I saw him.
Life was getting better, now I could afford to rent an apartment, nothing too fancy but better than being homeless, my health improved and the days living on the street were just a fading memory, one that I tried to forget.
All was going well, I got new friends and even a cat that I called Larry, all was going well indeed… until Corona happened! That is.
Like I was saying I lost my job when the restaurant I worked at went out of business due to the pandemic.
And there I was sat on my desk holding my head in despair, rent, and bills were due in 2 days, I didn’t want to be homeless again, I hear that the landlord that owned the department complex was a heartless man and that his kicked out already 4 people this week, without a care in the world for the pandemic.
The library was closed and I didn’t own a desktop, so I couldn't send applications for job offers, I did what was possible with my cellphone, I took a picture of my resume and used an app to transform it to a PDF then applied to every job that I saw online. After being applying for jobs for 3 hours, I long in to social media to ease my stress, my feed was full of my cats pictures, I just had 10 friends added, my circle was very small and I just knew 4 of them in person, I was lost in the sea of memes and videos when something catcher my attention.
I had a friend’s request! How I didn’t notice that, I clicked over the icon and a profile picture popped up, it was the picture of a well-groomed man, dressed in a suit with a luxury car in the background, the name under the picture read “Larry Moore”
It can’t be true! I exclaimed and without a second thought, I accepted the request. Short after I got a message.
“Hello Pal” it read followed by a string of random emojis
“Larry is this really you?” I wrote back
“For sure Pal, long time not see” Larry wrote
‘You look so different, how you been?” I asked
“I been alright, just moved to a new house and got the internet working so I decided to search for my old Pal, at the start I wasn’t sure if was really you, when I search for your name I got 2 results a guy from Zimbabwe and a local one, I know you are not the adventuring kind to have move to Zimbabwe, so I choose the local guy, guess I was right” Larry wrote followed by a emoji sticking its tongue out
“So how you are doing?” he finally asked
I proceed to tell him how I had lost my job, about my debt and how I needed to pay rent soon or I would be kicked out of my apartment, I may have rant for at least 2 hours, when he suddenly answered with a simple text.
“Don’t worry Pal, I get ya, download this app and you will see how things get better, it worked for me, now if you excuse me, I have to go, is kinda late”
“Oh, ok man, thanks for the help” I texted back
“No problem Pal” He answered, and his name went offline
I scrolled up in our chat to look for the link and clicked on it.
My phone opened a new window in the app store.
“Doves Game” that were the words that welcomed me on the app store, it seemed to be some sort of game, the app seemed a bit sketchy, its icon was of a cartoonish pigeon head with wide eyes, it had around 100k downloads and a 5 stars rating, when I scrolled down looking for more information I could just find one screenshot that said “win great prizes everyday”
I was resistant on the idea of downloading the app, what if this was just an scam or worse what if it was loaded with malware, my phone was the only contact I had with people on this pandemic and my only mean to get a job, but Larry would never do something like that to me, he was like a brother to me, also he seem to be doing very well, dam I have never saw him this well, maybe this was a betting app? One that not many people knew about.
I tap on the download icon wishing it was nothing illegal and the download started, it may have taken around 5 minutes to download with my shitty WIFI, but there it was. The cartoon pigeon was staring at me through my phones screen.
I hesitate for a moment before I tap on it “Here goes nothing” I told to myself while petting my cat Larry that had just woken up and wanted his daily dose of attention.
The screen of my phone changed to a signup page and prompted me to introduce a username and password, I thought for a second and I wrote “Hamlet404” this was an old nickname from my acting days in college.
After clicking that I agreed to terms-and-polices screens and allow for geolocation to be enabled, the app showed a welcome message and displayed a home window. It was nothing that I have never seen before, my username was on the top under a generic blue avatar icon of a person silhouette, you know the kind that social media gives you when you don’t have a picture. I scrolled down and saw 3 fields labelled, “Rank, Badges and Balance” all 3 of them had a number zero to its right. I kept scrolling until I got to the bottom of the screen, and there it was, a button labelled: Instructions, “weird spot to put something so important” I thought, If I had made this app this would had been on the top of everything, but anyway I moved my finger over the icon and clicked it. A black page with white font opened, it read:
Welcome to the Dove game version 3.1.2
We always strive for our participants to get the best experience possible out of our app.
\*Rules of the game***
1.When an event is started near your location, an alarm will sound
2.You will have a limited amount of time to find a “Token”
3. The token approximate location will show in your game map
4. If the time runs out and you found nothing you will get zero points awarded ☹
5.If you are playing on survival mode however, rule 4 does not apply and players will be awarded a token of value = 1at the end of each event
6.Tokens have different point values, if you find a token time will stop
7. Rule 6 does not apply to survival mode
8 .At the end of each event you will be awarded points which are calculated as:
Your Rank\Token Value*Time Left in Counter*
9.You can exchange your points for cash at the end of each game
10.The rules of the game may vary the higher your Rank gets
Have fun, and Happy hunting!
A loud rhythmic bell noise suddenly made my ears almost explode. I opened my eyes and look around disoriented. I was laying on the floor next to my bed, did I just fall sleep? I looked at my bed searching for the source of the noise, that was starting to get unbearable, it sounded like if a madman was ringing the bells of an old church, what I saw was my phone flashing with a red light, I grabbed it and read a message displayed on the screen “Game on”, I quickly unlocked my phone and click on the notification.
Suddenly a map pops up, this map was very similar to the one you use in your GPS when trying to find an address it showed my location with a blue arrow and a timer in the bottom that was counting backwards. “58 minutes” it read.
Dammit! I remembered that the rules talked about finding an object or something like that before the time ran out, I look at time on my phone “4:08 AM” it said.
“Gosh! why this needs to be so early” I murmur to myself. I was thinking in close my phone and go back to bed, when a dreadful thought crossed my mind, “remember man, this could be your last chance, rent is due tomorrow, do you want to be homeless again?” this thought horrifies me, this was my last chance, if this was how Larry became so well off, maybe I could too.
I ran to the bathroom and sprinkle my face with cold water to wake me up, then went back to my room and put on a white hoodie, my old broken jeans and a face mask that I got from the restaurant where I used to work.
I was racing to the door when I suddenly stopped and look back, and there it was with not a care in the world, my dear cat Larry, spread across the floor sleeping. I stare at him for a moment and said “ I am doing this for you too bud, we are not going back to the street” then I opened the door and run out.
The weather outside was chilly, nothing weird for being 4 am. I ran down the stairs the fastest I could to the first floor of the apartment complex and pull out my bike lock keys. I bought this bicycle on a garage sale for $30 it was a bit beat down and rusty but it served its purpose, I heard that its previous owner died when getting hit by a train, while trying to outrun it, and this is why the seller told me that the handles were crooked, maybe this was a lie, so he could get rid of it, but I can’t denied that the bike was a god deal.
I unlocked my bike nervously and looked at my phone, I haven’t had time to even check
were the heck I was supposed to go, so I took a deep breath and look around, I notices a second small red arrow pointing to the top of the map I clicked on it and suddenly the map zoomed out showing a red dot somewhere not far from me, I immediately recognized the place, it was in the same street that a food pantry that I used to visit, it may took me 15 to 20 minutes to reach that place, then my attention got differed to the counter at the bottom of the screen, it now read“48 minutes”
“Dammit I took too long” I cursed under my breath
I hopped on my bike and started to pedal with all my strength, because of the time of the day and the pandemic the streets were completely empty, this allowed me to pay little attention to the road and look at my phone to keep track to were I was going, all was going fine until I heard the noise of tires skidding, behind me, when I look back I saw a black sports car, passing me at incredible speed, this car seemed to be in a huge rush and was doing the same diction as me.
For a second my heart fill with dread, what if the black car was another person like me that was trying to get the token, I mean it was logical to think that many other people would know about this app, it had 100k downloads after all.
I was stating to feel defeated and stopped near a park, to catch my breath
“what I do, what I do” I murmur nervously to myself
There was no way I could outrun a car on my bike, unless…I stared to the city canal, it water supply had been cut years ago and was used by homeless people to move around certain part of the city undisturbed, I was certain that I could get some advantage over the other players, if I took that route, but it wasn’t going to be easy, the dry canal was full of trash and other obstacles that will make it a difficult road to transverse, however it was my only bet, so I started to pedal new found enthusiasm toward the canal.
I must have pedal for around 10 minutes, while dodging random supermarket carts and truck tires when I saw it, The Memorial Park at Burnside street. I was finally reaching my destination, I peak at my phone while holding my bikes crooked handles with one hand, “23 minutes” the counter displayed.
Immediately after arriving at the park, I jumped from my bike letting it crash to a bunch of bushes and started to run toward the red dot on my screen, my legs were burning at this point, and my longs felt like they were going to explode, I never feel so alive! so pumped! this was my last chance, I was going to take it even if it costed me my life.
And there I was looking around, the map on my cellphone screen marked that I was on the right location, just over the red dot, I look around but saw nothing or no one which was a relief, that shortcut had gain me some time, but if I count find the Token all would have been a waste.
I started to look around, under the park benches, in the bushes and suddenly something caught my attention, at the center of the park was an small fountain, nothing fancy, ya know the kind of fountain you find in most parks, if I were going to hide something that would be a good spot, I thought.
I look at the muddy water for a moment, I knew guys that used to urinate on this kind of fountains, I thought for a second and with a sigh I jump into the water, the water was very cold, maybe due to the time of the day, the water was all but clear and I am sure I touched some pieces of plastic that I wished to be a plastic bag, suddenly I hear a car skidding, followed by what sounded like a multitude of people running towards my direction, I started to panic, and start to frantically push water in all direction trying to find something, whatever this token was.
And then I feel it, my feet stumbled into something, solid, without a second thought I reach in the water and grabbed what it seemed to be a perfectly cubical black box, the box had not markings and was strangely heavy for its size.
My cellphone started to emit a trumpet sound, it was a strangely joyful melody, I look at it and the screen displayed, “Winner” in large font across the screen, then my screen changed to a summary table, with 3 fields on it, the first one was Rank that shower a 1 next to it, the second said Token and showed a 100 to its right and the last field said Time and showed exactly 10 minutes, which I assumed was the time I had left when I grabbed the strange box, then at the bottom of the table a green button label “Next” was glowing, I clicked on it and my phone changed to a new screen, which said :Score: 1*100*10 = 1000” and displayed the world Congratulations in golden letters under the score, I tap again and another screen pup up showing my Rank change from 1 to 2 with a distinctive “victory noise” you know the kind that sound in most games this days when you achieve something, after this my screen went back to the home screen but it was slightly different now, my Rank was now 2 and my balance had changed to 1000 points.
Was this actually real money? I thought
I couldn’t be, but then how I could explain the changes in Larry. I was so absorbed into my phone that I barely noticed that the people that were rushing at me a moment ago were now gone, I looked around but saw not sign of anyone.
I looked back to my phone and clicked under balance, a new window opened showing 2 options “Redeem” or “Transfer” I click on redeem and a popup window showed a message saying:, “Dear player, in order to redeem your points you have to deposit the Token at the given destination, before 6am”
“are you kidding right!?” I yelled while holding my phone on the air, I was tired, wet with water that may had urine among other things in it, and on the middle of download at 5am.
“Fine” I sigh with anger, if I was going to play this game will be at the end, better this was not a scam.
Now a new icon was showing under my home page, it had the image of a letter on it, I tap it and the screen changed to the already familiar city map, but now it had an address on the top of the screen, Rose street? That was just a couple blocks away from here, I step out of the fountain soaking wet and went to grab my bike, I was surprised no cop had stopped me at this point, to be true no people was to be found around, this was both calming and unsettling at the same time.
I hop on my bike and started to slowly pedal to my destination, it took me around 5 minutes until I arrived, at the location of the red dot there was just a post box when I approach my phone received a notification, it read “You have reach your destination, please deposit the Token inside the Post box”
I did as indicate and the app made another triumphant trumped noise, this was starting to get annoying, and on the top of all, this was sketchy as hell, the black box had no features not a name or destination wrote on it, would someone just came to take it later form the post box? I was lost in thought when my phone ring again, :another notification” I sigh
I open the notification and a Congratulations message greet me, saying that “I could redeem my money now”
“Money!” I exclaimed
So, this thing was legit? I tap on the Balance field on app’s home screen and then choose the “Redeem” option, a single window opened asking me to input my bank information.
“I knew this was a scam!” however I was completely broke, the image of Larry assaulted my mind, “Maybe is legit” I told to myself
“I mean if they want to rob me, I have no money left, so what is the worse that can happen, right?” I fill the blank fields with my bank information and click accept.
A second window appeared asking me how many points I wanted to redeem, I quickly dial a 1000 and clicked next.
A loading screen appeared for a second then it changed to a popup message saying, “Transaction completed”, and quickly returned to the home screen, now my balance was zero.
“Did it work?” I was baffled, I opened my bank app, typed my username and password and then ... no worlds could describe the joy that I felt, I had received $1000 into my account, deposited by “Doves Game”.
This was legit! I knew Larry wouldn’t lie to me, if my legs were cramping for all the pedaling, I would have been jumping in joy.
For the next 2 days I had no notifications from the Doves game, I was stating to get anxious, when one night my phone stated to ring, the characteristically sound of bells come from my speakers, this sound was both annoying and disturbing, both also for some strange reason it filled me with joy. I jump from my bed and tapped my screen, a new map popped up, with a counter that stated to count back from 180 minutes as soon as I opened the app.
I hurried to grab my hoodie and put on my shoes, opened my apartment door but stopped for a second and looked back to my bed, there it was without a worry in the world, my little Larry, sleeping on my bad, I glance at him and said, “Daddy got some work to do, I will be back soon” then I closed the door and run to get my bike.
I looked at the map swiftly, The red dot was farther than last time, it seemed to be somewhere near the old museum in downtown, maybe if I took 47 street I could reach it in the shortest time.
I hopped on my bike and started to pedal, the streets were almost completely empty, it was not surprise, taking into account that it we still on quarantine and it was 2 am, I was pedaling the fastest that I could, when I started to wonder, why this games were always at this kind of times? what were the tokens?, where did the money came from? I hope I it wasn’t something illegal, maybe they were mining data and selling it. I heard this from a friend that went with me to college, some companies released apps to make behavioral studies, maybe this app was collecting data from the routes the players took and selling it to I don’t know taxi services or maybe food delivery?
I was completely lost in thought when I saw it, a red motorcycle almost hit me on the intersection, I quickly hold the breaks on my old bike and planted my feet on the street, skidding out of the way, when I looked back the biker didn’t even noticed me, then it when it hits me, this bike was going the same direction that I was, my heart started to pond faster, I almost forgot that I was not the only person in this game, this was a competition after all, and there was no way I could reach my destination faster than a motorcycle.
“What I do, what I do?” I started to panic, maybe there was a shortcut that I could take? But this was not like last time, the red dot was 5 blocks ahead, no tricks or good luck would save me this time, however I remembered that the token were usually hidden, maybe there was still a chance, perhaps my luck was not over yet, my body started to move by its own out of desperation, my hand grabbed firmly onto my bike’s crooked handle and I started to pedal at full speed, a couple minutes later I was arriving at the place that my map marked.
It was a huge parking load, maybe 7 stories tall, however the place seemed to be empty, possible ready for demotion, I look around and I saw 2 cars parked inform of the street, and the red motorcycle next to the entrance of the parking load.
“Dammit, I was late” I cursed.
I peak at my phone to check the time, the counter showed 147 minutes left, well at least I had plenty of time, maybe the token was well hidden.
I enter the dark parking lot and started to walk, every step echoed inside the empty wall of the huge building, some of the light were out and other blinked frenetically, it seems that this place had been abandoned for a while, I continued walking until I reached the red dot on my map.
Here it was in the middle of an empty parking lot at 2am, and no sign of the token, I looked at my phone just to confirm. The blue arrow that showed my position was on the top of the red dot that was supposedly the Token, but no token could be found around, also it was the unsettling matter that no other player could be found around, maybe the token was in one of the floor above me, I decided to take the stair and went the fastest I could considering how tired my legs were.
“Dam, if I knew I would be running this much I would have done more cardio before the game” How ever there was not time to whine, this was my only chance to get some cash, my mind resisted the idea to return to the streets, the cold, the hunger, I had enough of that.
When I reached the second floor I rushed to were the red dot was, but again nothing, just silence and an empty parking lot, I started to wonder if the token was in the last floor, as tired as my legs were I would collapse before even reaching it, and to make matters worse I could not find an elevator anywhere.
However even if my legs were burning like two pieces of charcoal, my body had already decided to reach the next floor, after arriving I notices a weird sound that echoed on the walls of the dark and empty building. It sounded like a bird, I recognized the sound, it was how pigeons sounded on the city parks, maybe a group of pigeons decided to make this parking lot its home, I mean the place was abandoned, so it was free real state at this point.
I continued walking looking at my phone, the red dot was getting closer for every step I took, incidentally the pigeon noises were getting louder too, maybe the token was attached to a pigeon? I thought.
This game was already ridiculous as it was, so a token to be attached to a pigeon or even be the pigeon did sounded that farfetched, I was looking at my phone when a sound caught my attention, it sounded like someone scratching a bag, I look up and saw a man dressed in a suit crouching near something, “Oh shit, what I do now?” I knew people were competing with me, maybe I could talk with the guy and offer to split the prize if we worked together to find the token, was that even possible to do?
I pointed my phone flashlight directly to the guy and started a sentence, but I couldn’t talk, what I saw left me speechless, the guy stood on his feet and turned his head 180 degrees toward me, without even moving his body, he was wearing a weird mask with the shape of a pigeon and I could see some dark liquid dripping from were the beak of the mask was, to make matters stranger I notices that the pigeon notice was being produced by him.
I instinctively stepped back, then I focused on his feet, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I shine my light over it, there was a pool of a red liquid coming out from were the man was crouching, there was a dead person on the floor! My heart beat harder, as my brain was trying to make sense of what was going on. Suddenly the man turned his body toward me, but his head did not move, it kept fixed on my with those not blinking eyes, then he pulled a machete out of his jacket and started to step towards me, in that moment my phone sounded with the apps characteristically ring tone but I was too sprinting toward the starts to even care about it, my legs felt heavy but somehow I found the strength to run for my life.
I was almost reaching the stairs when I noticed that the place had gotten totally silent, no pigeon noises, or even steps behind me, maybe that psycho decided not to chase me. I stopped to catch my breath, and looked behind, it happened too fast, when I looked back, I saw a large machine blade descending towards my head, and just missing me for an inch, I stumbled on my feet and fell to the ground, when I looked up, I could see the bird guy laying on the ground, with an axe stuck on the back of his head.
I noticed it was not breathing, not even producing a single noise, and form its head wound a black liquid was oozing, then I look to my left and I swear that I almost piss my pant, next to me was another person, it was all dress in black leather and had a motorcycle helmet, if I didn’t knew better I could sear it was the person that passed my on the red motorcycle when I was heading here, the mysterious figure stayed next to then and suddenly, extended an arm towards me, I grab his glove covered hand and helped me to get on my feet.
“Thanks” I exclaimed
“ This is getting worse; we need to get out off here before times runs out” the biker exclaimed with a surprisingly feminine voice
I looked back to the dead bird man and then back to the biker, going with her could be my only choice.
“Deal, so what is the plan” I said
“ I bet they are rushing towards our position, while we speak, maybe” she stopped at mid-sentence to look around.
“That I sit!” she exclaimed
“Follow me”
She started to run towards a dark section of the creepy parking place, after a short while we stopped, there was an emergency exit In front of us, she pushed the door, but it did not move.
“It seems they locked us in” she exclaimed with anger
“maybe we should…” before I could finish my sentence, she jumped toward the door kicking it down.
“Fixed it” he said cheerfully
We rushed toward the stairs and ran all the way down; my legs were killing me when we got to the first floor.
“Please wait” I plead, my knees were starting to hurt for the nonstop, running.
“We don’t have time” she yelled while opening the exit door.
When we stepped outside, my eyes could not believe what I was seeing, we were surrounded, there were at least 4 bird guys around us, the door closed behind us before I could ever react.
The bird guys were of all body shapes, one of them was wearing suits and the others had casual clothes, the bird guy with the suit was welding a machete while the others were carrying different blunt weapon such as baseball bats or metal pipes, they stayed motionless just staring at us, with those yellow non blinking eyes.
Suddenly a tall bird man dressed with a green jacked launched towards the Biker swinging a baseball bat at an incredible speed, before I could even blink, I saw she move out of the way and kick him in the leg, effectively braking it backwards, the bird man fell to the ground making a sad gurgling noise, almost immediately 2 of the pigeon people charged forward with their metal pipes, the Biker dodged the first and parried the second in one motion, then retaliated with an elbow to the expressionless pigeon mask of the second assailant and a kick to the first one’s head, taking both down, however at that moment I didn’t notice due to the commotion that the forth bird guy had disappeared, when I saw him it was too late, He jumped from God knows where and slashed the Biker on her back.
“I have to help her!” a voice inside of my head screamed
Before I could even think in a course of action, my body moved by itself reaching for a baseball bat that had fallen from the hand of one of the injured bird guys, then spinning with all the momentum that I could muster, I swing at the head of the suited bird guy, his neck bend making a terrible cracking sound and a second later his body fell limp to the ground.
Then I directed my gaze to the Biker girl that was panting in the floor trying to hold her open wound.
“Here let me help you” I said while kneeling next to her
“They usually never get me; I must be getting soft” she responded jokingly
“I need your help tho” she said slowly, her level of energy was getting lower at the second.
“I need you to take my jacket off and apply pressure to the wound then grab my Bike and take me to the hospital” she said while handling me a pair of keys which had a panda sticker on them. I did as she asked, oh God, the wound was worse that I was expecting, a clear slash across most of her upper back, I grabbed her jacked and applied pressure to the wound until it stop bleeding, then helped her to get up, just to discover that a small pool of blood had been form where she was laying.
“This is bad” I thought to myself, while helping her walk toward the front of the building
When we reached the bike, she crawled in pain to get on the seat, then I hear a noise that sent a chill through my spine, it sounded like a pigeon, I look behind me and I saw a huge group of bird people going out of the parking lot, they must have been around 15, they stood motionless for a second and then launched sprinting toward us, I hopped on the bike and turn it on, and without more delay I accelerated the hardest I could, the last time that I rode a bike was when I was 16 so it took a second to get used to it again.
When I looked on the bikes mirror, I could not believe what I saw, a multitude of bird people were right behind, me sprinting at super human speed, The needle on the bike marked that I was going at 60 miles per hour and yet they were getting closer, I made an swift turn on an intersection trying to lose then, but this made the bike skid out of control, leading us to crash with a traffic sign, fortunately we didn’t suffer any more injuries.
“Are you ok?” I ask to the almost unconscious biker that was grabbing firmly to my back
“Dammit, man if I knew you were this bad at driving, I would have tested my luck with the Doves” she answered with an irritated but low voice tone.
I was going to answer but got immediately interrupted, by the already familiar ring tone from my phone.
“Perfect, it seems we won” she exclaimed while looking at her phone, then turned her gaze toward me while trying to hold her eyes open and told me
“Listen man, I don’t feel well, I going to transfer half of the prize to you, but I need you to make me a last favor” she said while typing slowly on her phone
I almost forgotten about the game; this whole situation was so sick that I had forgotten to even find the token.
Then she took out of her leader pocket a small statue of a Dove, it was bright golden, maybe it was even made of gold.
“Look, I need you to deposit this token at this address, hurry take a picture of it”
I grabbed my phone and took a picture of her screen, after this she exclaimed “Good” and passed out.
Not 2 minutes had passed when an ambulance arrived, possible called by a bystander that saw us crash, the paramedics carried her into the ambulance and hook her with an oxygen mask, I sited on the back of the ambulance while a paramedic checked on my and asked me some questions, I knew they will not believe what just happened, so I told them that we had an accident.
After arriving at the hospital, I was asked to wait, I sit on the waiting room and look at my phone, and the it was a notification from the Dove Game flashing, I click on it, an new screen popped up that said “Winner”, I click on it and another screen displayed my score as follows:
Rank: 2, Token:1, Time 60 minutes, I noticed something uncommon on the screen, there was a new field, leveled “Injury to Associate: -10000”
“What is this!” I exclaimed
Then looked back to my screen, next to my score I could see the number “-9880”, I didn’t know I can get points deducted, let alone have a negative score.
“Injury to Associate” was this referring to the biker girl?
I navigate to the home window, and effectively my balance had changed to -9880, there was also a small icon on the top of the scree with a dove’s head, I clicked, and a message popped,
A transaction of 35000 points have been issued to this account by “LadyPanda”, the balance will be available after the points have been claimed
“LadyPanda?” I looked at my phone curiously, then I snapped back on my sit. I almost forgot, I needed to deposit the golden pigeon on the address that the biker lady showed me! I quickly search on my images, and found the picture of the location, the red point was around 6 blocks from my location.
I left the hospital quickly and started to run, a couple minutes later I reached the mailbox and dropped the weird token into it and so like last time, a notification sounded coming from my phone, it was the already familiar bell sound.
I grabbed my phone and opened the app, my balance had changed to 25120 points, a feel of relief crossed my head, this has been the only good thing that happened in the whole day.
After returning to the hospital a middle Asian man, wearing a white coat approached me
“So there you are, Miss. Diaz asked to see you” he said with a calm but commanding voice, I followed him to a room and there it was the biker girl, laying on a bed with a couple of IV tubes connected to her wrist.
“ Thanks for your help Doctor Lee” she said to the man in the white coat.
“A pleasure, now if you and your brother excuse me, I have a couple of patients to check” he waved his hand at us without making eye contact and left the room.
“Your brother? We don’t even look alike” I told her while grabbing a sit next to her bed
“You right man, I should have told them that you were a stranger that was helping me escape from a group of homicidal bird people” she said smiled faintly
“So, what now?” I asked
“You got your money, didn’t you? We live to see other day” she answered while looking to the window
“Just that! This is nuts we should, go to the police post this on social media” I said while raising form my chair, but she didn’t even react.
“quiet man, you are making my head hurt, look I was an ex-cop and believe me I already try all of that, to the world the Doves don’t exit, but don’t worry after a while you will get used to the game”
“Besides, aren’t you making most money that ever in your life?” she continued
“Look I know that being almost murdered by a bunch of people wearing bird masks in not the idea way to spend a weekend, however I been trying to escape the game for almost a year, and they always find me”
“You seem to be quick on your feet, it would be good to have you on the same team, I sent you a friend request on the app, when you accept it we will be able to share the games rewards, I will contact you later with more instructions, for now I need to rest, you know being slashed in the back with a machete took a tool on my body, who knew”
After this I said bye and left the room, I called for a taxi to go back to my apartment, while waiting I check that dammed app, and there it was a little icon of a doves head on the top corner had appeared on the home screen, I open it and said.
Player: LadyPanda want to add you as a friend
Two option were below the text, “accept” or “decline” I tapped on accept then went back to the home scree and tap on the pigeon face again, 2 field shower, friends and settings, I tap on friends and saw her name “LadyPanda” with an icon of a dialogue bubble next to it, when I clicked on it a typical chat window opened, it read.
“Welcome to the team Hamlet, hope we can become friends, an special even will be celebrated in 2 weeks on the Dove’s Game, I will held a meeting on my house in a week to discussed about it, I will send you more information later, until then be safe 😊”
